Following a ruthless display on Wednesday, Durham were seeking to continue their recent success against an in-form Silksworth side.
An even and fast start saw plenty of chances for both sides with the best chance falling to the home side as Caine McCartney raced away one on one, only to see his effort expertly saved by the Silksworth goalkeeper. The first goal, however, fell to Silksworth as a good through ball down the right split open the defence and allowed the striker to get a shot away and score. A response was needed and duly came when a switch of play fell at the feet of Alex Baptist who fired home with a powerful volley. The momentum swung Durham's way leading to an excellent solo goal from Jack Gibbons who flicked the ball over a Silksworth defender’s head before dribbling into the box and smashing the ball home (as pictured above) to give Durham the lead going into half time.
Durham’s good work at the end of the first half was quickly undone as Silksworth equalised soon after half time and then took the lead as a point blank save from Sam Hughes-Penny was not enough with the Silksworth striker smashing in the rebound. Durham looked tired and struggled to find any sort of rhythm in the second half as Silksworth capitalised and scored again following a scramble in the box from a corner led to the fourth and final goal.
It was a disappointing afternoon for Durham who will be looking to bounce back at home to league toppers FC Hartlepool on Wednesday.
