From brand-new squad to a well-oiled machine: Women's Third XI season round-up

Updated: Mar 9, 2023

For Durham 3's it was a season of growth and development. With a squad of many fresh faces to DUWAFC and Durham too, we took this season as a stepping stone in preparation for our coming seasons. Despite a few setbacks, the team showed resilience, determination throughout the season and gave it 100%.

The season kicked off with a tough loss against Teeside, possibly the hardest team to face first, but the team didn't let it get them down. They went on to face Lancaster and Leeds, also resulting in losses, but it was clear that the team was improving with each match.

Their first win of the season came in a thrilling match against Sheffield, where they secured a 3-1 victory. This was a game that proved to every member of the team what we are capable of, and really lifted the morale. The team's hard work was paying off, the effort put into training was proving itself on the field, and they were eager to continue their winning streak.

Unfortunately, the following matches didn't go as planned, with losses against Teeside, Liverpool John Moore, and Northumbria. However, the team didn't give up. They kept pushing themselves in training and worked to improve their game.

In their last few matches, they faced off against Durham 2's and Lancaster once again, but despite their efforts, they couldn't secure the wins they were hoping for. Nonetheless, the team remained positive and focused on what they could improve upon for the next season.

The team's futsal matches were also a learning experience for them. They suffered several losses, but they managed to clinch a victory against Northumbria, which was a major accomplishment.

Overall, the team demonstrated incredible resilience and determination throughout the season. They worked hard to improve their skills and teamwork, and despite facing tough competition, they never lost their fighting spirit. The team can take pride in what they achieved and will undoubtedly come back even stronger next season, and get those wins rolling in wearing the palatinate purple.
