DUAFC 1s 2-1 Notts Trent 1s
Off the back of a 3-2 away loss to Loughborough the 1s looked to get their first win of the season as they welcomed Nottingham Trent 1s to a windy Maiden Castle.
After weathering the metaphorical storm from Trent in the first five minutes, DUAFC began to play the attractive style of football they are associated with. Around the half hour mark Hizzett notched his second in two games with a tricky finish, which he is claiming was a ‘bicycle kick’ (jury is still out on that one), to put Durham 1-0 up as we went into half-time.
A dominating first half performance saw the boys go into the second half full of confidence. Trent continued their direct style of play attempting to launch wave after wave of attack, but the back 5 of Bull, Abney, Lant, Merrett, and England managed to keep them at bay.
DUAFC turned on the style for their second goal with almost every player on the pitch getting a touch of the ball from back to front. A mixture of short sharp passes, neat round the corner balls and longer distance passes saw the ball go from Bull’s hands to the left foot of Hizzett and into the back of the net in only 21 seconds (see below)!
Trent were not deterred and continued to go on the offensive, managing to grab a late goal to keep Durham on their toes for the final 5 minutes.
The boys in white held firm and walked away more than deserved 2-1 winners to get their first +3 of the season and begin to build the snowball!
